North America’s Oldest Hillclimb Returns to Mt. Washington July 10-12, 2020

Pinkham Notch, NH — Mount Washington has an international reputation for its severe and quickly-changing weather conditions, and it once again held true to its nature for the 59th annual Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race. Held on June 15th, the morning brought high winds to the summit, with wind chills dropping down into the 20s.

PINKHAM NOTCH, NH — Hundreds of hikers will return to the White Mountains and the mighty Presidential Range for the Mount Washington Observatory’s 19th Annual Seek the Peak (STP) hike-a-thon on July 19-20, the largest annual fundraiser for the summit weather station. The Mt. Washington Auto Road is proud to be a presenting sponsor of this event, which helps to fund the amazing meteorological studies that the organization has been conducting since 1932.

PINKHAM NOTCH, NH — Held on May 25th during Memorial Day weekend, Alton Weagle Day at the Mt. Washington Auto Road was the annual kick-off event to 2019, coinciding with the much-anticipated opening of the Auto Road for its 158th summer season. The Auto Road and Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center have a full line-up of events this summer, but Alton Weagle Day is arguably the most unique.

First held in 1997 as Ski to the Clouds, the race quickly became regarded as North America’s Toughest 10K—due primarily to the fact that the final 6 kilometers climbs over 2,200 vertical feet up the Mt. Washington Auto Road.

Officials with the Sports Car Club of New Hampshire, organizers of the 2017 Subaru Mt. Washington Hillclimb planned for July 6-9, 2017 at the Mt. Washington Auto Road in Gorham, NH, announced today that 80 competitors representing 17 states in the United states as well as the countries of Canada, Wales, Australia and Romania will make up the field for this year’s Climb to the Clouds automotive hillclimb taking place on the historic 7.6 mile Mt. Washington Auto Road.

The Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb is known as the toughest hillclimb in the world at 7.6 miles in length, has an average grade of 12% with extended sections of 18% and the last 50 yards is an amazing 22%. Riders race to the top of New England at 6,288ft.
