Mt. Washington Gift Shops
We have four Gift Shops on our property. In the Base Lodge, visit the Gift Shop on the main level and the Great Glen Outfitters Shop on the First Floor (lower level). At the base of the Auto Road, you’ll find the Hideaway Country Store, and when you get to the top, visit our Summit Shop.
-
Our base lodge gift shop has something for everyone, with local NH made items, stuffed animals, posters, books, snacks, clothing and much more for the Mt. Washington Auto Road enthusiast or to remember your trip forever.
Also in our Base Lodge, on the first floor, is the Great Glen Outfitters Shop. If you’d like to get a little more techy with your purchase don’t miss this stop. Footwear, quick wicking shirts, winter hats and winter jackets are just some of the options at the outfitters shop. Grab a Clif Bar, Vitamin Water and a fun summer pack for your days spent around Mt Washington.
The Hideaway Country Store is just beyond the Mt. Washington Auto Road Toll House. A quaint shop with restrooms, a gas station, picnic area and a slightly smaller selection of Auto Road goodies, snacks and gifts. We also sell gas in case you are starting to get low!
At more than a mile above sea level sits our summit gift shop! Just follow the staircase from the parking lots and the building will greet you at the top. It’s the smallest of the three gift shops but still has some excellent products and a breathtaking view.
Base Lodge
The 20,000 square foot Base Lodge provides panoramic views of the Northern Presidentials, and is home to Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and Retail Shop.
-
The Mt. Washington Auto Road and Great Glen Trails invite you to visit our 20,000 square foot base lodge, which features panoramic views to the northern Presidentials and provides unique seasonal amenities to compliment a full day of outdoor recreation.
Located directly across from the entrance of the Auto Road, the lodge is home to Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and a full gift shop is available for unique New England made souvenirs. Restrooms, an elevator, plus historic photographs are featured on the walls and complete the main floor.
During the winter months, a wax room is available with five waxing stations. Additional amenities include lockers and private shower facilities, a complete rental shop, conference room and free WiFi.
Red Barn Museum
The Douglas A. Philbrook Red Barn Museum is located just outside of our Base Lodge and houses objects, memorabilia, and vehicles from our past.
-
The Douglas A. Philbrook Red Barn Museum is located just outside of our base lodge. Opened in 1861, the Mount Washington Carriage Road was the first man-made tourist attraction in America. Earlier that year Abraham Lincoln had taken office and in spite of his impassioned inaugural address, the Civil War had begun.
Of the many horse and hay barns that served the staging business on the Carriage Road at the turn of the century, this last surviving barn is now where we display our past. In addition to objects and memorabilia from the Auto Road’s history, you can see some of the vehicles that once made the 8-mile journey to the top of New England.
The Red Barn Museum is open everyday from 10am to 4pm. Closed in winter (November – mid May).
Pinkham Notch Market
Located in the base lodge at Great Glen Trails Outdoors Center, this quick market offers hot and cold beverages and grab-n-go snacks to fuel your next adventure, and some easy heat-up meal options.
Open daily, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM (closed in off seasons)
